Classifying Higher Education Institutions in the MENA Region: A pilot project
This project aims at developing a classification of higher education institutions in the Arab countries, with emphasis on quality and internationalization. This classification would include description and analysis of these institutions and their provisions from comparative perspective within regional and international settings. It is pilot study.
First a classification model is designed. It includes ten dimensions, with, for each, some indicators which determine what kind of information is needed. Based on the model a questionnaire is established in both Arabic and English. Then the questionnaires are distributed to national coordinators in eight countries: Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Tunisia and Morocco. The national coordinator is commissioned to fill in partly the questionnaires based on available data in the MHE. In a second phase s/he will distribute the questionnaires to higher education institutions for validation and completion. After data collection comes the data entry, then the data analysis. Based on the analysis a preliminary report on the findings will be prepared and discussed in a seminar to which participate all national coordinators and some experts. The report will amended on the light of seminar discussion.
Final report will be published in English by IIE, and in Arabic by LAES.
